When you arrived the house went crazy
You took over every moment of our day
Everything else stopped for you to play
And we kept you happy in every way.
You grew got bigger, took your place
Made us laugh with your funny face
Had to clean up after you at every turn
When you were bad you made us burn
We’d shout and curse, to make you learn.
You would run and run not to be caught
Disappear from home without a thought
You would come home return late at night
Look as if you’d been in a an awful fight
And we’d just be happy you were alright.
An old man looked over the gate one day
At you Purdie, just before you went away
The man stared and laughed at you a while
You Purdie looked back with your smile
You were our dog for such a long while.
